AAMFT Participates in Meeting to Assist Military and Veteran Family Providers

AAMFT has been working on efforts to promote and assist MFTs who work as military and veteran providers by participating in the Marriage and Family Counseling Collaborative (MFCC). On July 13-14, the leadership of this Collaborative met in Alexandria, Virginia to work on planning a more permanent structure for the Collaborative. As leaders within this Collaborative, AAMFT Clinical Members and staff, along with representatives from government agencies and other mental health professions, attended this important meeting. During this meeting, the name of the Collaborative was changed to the “Alliance of Military and Veteran Family Behavioral Health Providers.” This new name will more accurately reflect the purpose of the Alliance, which is “to optimize the preparedness of behavioral health providers working to enhance the resilience, recovery and reintegration of Service members, Veterans, and their Family members and communities throughout the military, post-military, and family life cycle.”  AAMFT members who wish to join this Alliance can sign up by visiting the Alliance/MFCC website. This website contains several resources that are useful to MFTs who work with military and veteran families. For example, the website contains a resource guide that lists many continuing education workshops available to MFTs. This website also contains resource guides pertaining to domestic violence and family support. Future activities of this Alliance will involve the development and dissemination of additional materials that will benefit MFTs who work with military and veteran families.
