The National Exam can be one of the most stressful parts of the licensure process. The Family Solutions Institute provides quality exam preparation materials, including study guides, lectures, and online study groups. They also provide numerous online and in-home practice exams.
Applicants are tested on six things: the practice of systemic therapy, assessing and diagnosing, developing and implementing interventions, evaluating the ongoing therapeutic process, including termination of services, managing crisis, and ethical and legal standards. The Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards also has an outline of a study guide online, as well as a list of therapeutic models to study. The AMFTRB provides practice exams as well.
Dr. Charles West, Past President of the Association of Marriage & Family Regulatory Boards describes the history and details of this exam:
Good luck with the National Exam!
