The Massachusetts Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT) is a state chapter of The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), an international professional organization founded in 1942, represents the professional interests of more than 25,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. AAMFT has been involved with the problems, needs and changing patterns of couples and family relationships. The association leads the way to increasing understanding, research and education in the field of marriage and family therapy, and ensuring that the public’s needs are met by trained practitioners. The AAMFT provides individuals with the tools and resources they need to succeed as marriage and family therapists, and other mental health practitioners legally authorized to independently treat couples and families.
MAMFT has a long and distinguished history in advancing the interests of professionals invested in helping families. Through its website, Newsletters, E-Blasts, and local and State-wide conferences, it publishes articles and holds conferences that clarify, challenge or reshape the prevailing understanding of factors that impact individuals, couples, families, and society as a whole. Its website also educates the public about current issues related to family life.
